“Central South Africa teams were not part of choirs that were facing elimination this past weekend as they did enough to impress the judges.”

Two Central South African choirs have continued to hold their own and wow judges in the country’s Clash of the Choirs competition aired on Mzansi Magic on DStv.

Both the Northern Cape and Free State choirs impressed the audience and judges with their sterling performances on Sunday (22/10). The Western Cape lost its spot in the competition after it was eliminated, leaving choir master Vusi Nova disappointed with the judges’ decision.

The Free State team, led by the queen of South African Gospel, Zaza Mokhethi, performed Ngafa by Shwi Nomtekhala and remixed it with Izolo by Mphorisa and Daliwonga. This week's competition entailed blending old school with new school songs.

The Kwaito iconic legend, Zwai Bala, commended the Free State on their performance and said they made him proud to be a South African. The Gospel sensational Dr. Tumi was impressed by the work ethic, whilst Soulful singer and writer Buhle Bendalo applauded Zaza and the team but advised them to stay real to elements of original songs when transitioning.

The Northern Cape team surprised many with their performance and left Judge Buhle screaming for more. The week did not start well at the rehearsal as the team did not have a stable choir master throughout the competition. The choir lead of the team could not hold back and expressed the team’s frustration over the challenge of getting a stable choirmaster.

The Northern Cape choir, led by Langa Mavuso as their choirmaster for the past week, served the audience and judges with Mafikizolo’s Emlanjeni and remixed it with Inkabi Zezwe’s Umbambayi.

Central SA teams were not part of the choirs that were facing elimination this past week as they did enough to impress the judges. Both remain in the top seven as they continue to eye the R1 million prize money and a recording deal.
