The top achievers in the Free State will be celebrated at the main well done ceremony in the Boet Troskie Hall on the Central University of Technology campus in Bloemfontein on Friday (17/1).

The top learners are from the Thabo Mofutsanya, Motheo, and Lejweleputsa districts. Four Free State districts secured top ten positions nationally out of 77 districts.

A technical release of the results was held at the Hotel School of the Central University of Technology on Tuesday (14/1) to brief the media on the results and how they should report on them.

“We have to remember that these learners entered Grade 8 in 2020 at the height of Covid-19, which affected their transition from primary to secondary school,” said Free State HOD of Education Adv. Tsoarelo Malakoane.

2021, a crucial year for the class of 2024 when they chose subjects for Grade 10 in 2022, was also disrupted. “That transition for the learners was not easy at all.”

Last year, 37,561 learners entered Grade 12 and 36,312 wrote the matric exams, leaving a difference of 1,861 learners, there were 20 554 females and 17 007 males in the province’s matric class, he said.

  2. Christiaan Goosen with nine distinctions from Grey College, Bloemfontein
  3. Lehlohonolo Mokhothu with seven distinctions from JC Motumi Secondary School, Odendaalsrus.
  4. Talitha van Sittert with seven distinctions from Welkom Gymnasium.
  5. Izak Du Plessis with 8 distinctions from Grey College.
  6. Nthabeleng Malakoane with ten distinctions from Rantsane Secondary School, Phuthaditjhaba.
  7. Elizabeth Tsosang with seven distinctions from Tsebo Secondary School, Phuthaditjhaba.
  8. Precious Tsolo with seven distinctions from Beacon Secondary School, Phuthaditjhaba.
  9. Letlotlo Ntoahae with seven distinctions from Ventersburg Intermediate School.
  10. Lerato Khutlane with seven distinctions from Ntemoseng Secondary School, Botshabelo.

“To our beautiful learners, you are stars and we are very proud of you. We are yet to celebrate you in front of people on Friday (17/1) at the well done ceremony,” said Free State MEC of Education Dr. MJ Maboya.
