Power utility Eskom has issued a statement pleading with community members to report anyone who illegally connects to or vandalises Eskom's network or equipment.
This, after the fall of a tower in Marikana, North West, due to vandalism and theft. In a tweet, Eskom says their power system is under severe pressure and the power utility urged people to switch off all unnecessary lights, geysers, pool pumps and non-essential appliances.
According to IOL, in November last year, the power utility saw the collapse of six towers outside Welkom. The cost of repairing these towers is expected to be more than R20 million.
