Gauteng MEC for public transport and infrastructure, Jacob Mamabolo, has expressed his intentions to shut down two taxi associations in the Vaal.

This, following violent clashes between these two associations.

This comes after the Internal Taxi Association (ITA), and the Evaton West Taxi Association (EWTA), violently clashed over the Golden Highway that leads to Evaton Mall.

Reportedly, four taxi operators have since been killed, while five taxis have been torched, leaving commuters stranded.

Mamabolo is considering dissolving the two associations, following their failure to prevent the violence that has resulted in the destruction of property and shootings.

The violent clashes have been happening for over a month.

The Gauteng Public Order Police have been deployed at various roads, to monitor the situation.
