With Christmas around the corner, it’s time to start decorating!

Whether it’s the traditional green fir tree in the corner or something more modern to make yourself, we have budget-friendly decorating tips. These tips offer simple yet effective ways to creatively and affordably enhance your holiday décor, using items you already have in and around the house.

Let’s first talk about wrapping paper which often seems like a waste of money. You spend time painstakingly wrapping gifts, only for kids to tear off the pricey paper in a flash.

Budget-wise tips

  • Make your own wrapping paper

Use craft paper, stamps, stickers, and felt-tip pens. It’s a fun activity for the family, saves money, and is eco-friendly.

Alternatively, use plain paper and embellish your gifts with ribbon, string, flowers, or leaves for a natural touch.

  • Consider making your own Christmas tree

You can make your own tree out of things you have around the house. Think books, ribbons, fabric scraps, a ladder, egg cartons, and even branches and sticks.

Pallet wood can also serve as material for your tree.

If you have kids, let them join in the fun!

  • Take advantage of sales and specials

Keep an eye out for deals leading up to the holiday season and purchase your gifts and decorations during these times. With late November’s Black Friday, most retailers and online shops offer fantastic bargains.

Holiday décor tips

  • Using old glassware

Transform unused glassware, jars, and tins into captivating holiday displays. Fill them with baubles, fairy lights, or candles to create stunning centrepieces on dining tables, or use them to enhance the charm of coffee tables, fireplace mantels, and windowsills.

For an added touch of elegance, consider dipping the tops of the glass jars in metallic paint or giving them a light spray for a subtle shine.

  • Candleholders

Repurpose old glassware as stylish candleholders. Simply add some festive touches to align with the Christmas theme.

A few strategic additions could create ambiance and enhance your festive décor.

  • Old paper décor

If you’ve got a stash of unwanted paper, transform it into whimsical decorations for your tree. Fold a page in half and cut out half of your desired shape, whether it’s a tree, star, or snowflake.

Cut out multiple copies of the same design, stack them, staple them down the middle, and then separate the layers to create 3D decorations for tables.

  • Wall décor

Wall decals and stickers make it easier than ever to add festive flair to your home. Seek out Christmas-themed images to adorn your walls this season.

Alternatively, use washable water paint and let your kids showcase their creativity with their own artistic wall designs. It’s a fun and temporary way to celebrate the holidays!
