"The electrical engineering intern quit her job in attempt to realise her dream of becoming a professional singer."

The Free State choir has received massive backing from the provincial government to win the national competition known as Clash of the Choirs, aired on Mzansi Magic on DStv.

At stake is R1 million prize money and a recording deal. The choir conductors include well-known DJ Price Kaybee and Gospel singer Zaza Mokhethi, among others. In a statement issued by the provincial government, the 12-member team was assembled following auditions in Bloemfontein on 31 July and 1 August this year.

Team Free State made it through to another round this past weekend after the North West team was eliminated. Nomasonto Makasane, a member of the team, said they are working hard to ensure they win the competition and progress their music careers. Makasane said the group has formed a bond which is beyond their musical journey.

The choirs sing songs from various music genres to wow the famous Dr Tumi, Zwai Bala, and Buhlebendalo Mda, who are judges of the competition. Makane said they would appreciate getting assistance from the provincial government to record their Extended Play (EP) if they do not win the competition.

The electrical engineering intern quit her job in an attempt to realise her dream of becoming a professional singer.  The group is being led by Zaza, who has been sharpening their vocals to give them a chance of winning the competition.

People have so far been impressed by the choir’s performances. On Sunday (15/10), Zaza led the choir with her much-loved song ‘Yawa le Mbewu’.
