The active Covid-19 cases in the Free State remains high despite the announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa, that more efforts were being made to help curb the spread of the virus in the province.
Currently, the Free State has the second-highest number of active Covid-19 cases, while KwaZulu-Natal has the highest number of active Covid-19 cases in the country.
The Free State has 7 432 active cases and 6 630 deaths.
Despite this, the province has initiated various programmes including pop-up vaccination sites, roping in different role players to encourage people to vaccinate.
So far over 800 000 Covid-19 vaccines have been administered across the province.
OFM News previously reported that the Department of Health encouraged residents of Welkom to show up at its Covid-19 vaccination pop-up site on Saturday.
The department had planned to offer services, including eye care, dental care, cervical cancer and Tuberculosis (TB) as well as HIV screening.
Recently Health Minister, Joe Phaahla, expressed his concern at the number of Covid-19 cases and called on the Free State Health Department to kick its vaccination campaign into a higher gear if it intended on meeting its target of inoculating 70% of the provinces' population.
During his visit to the province, Phaahla said that the province is lagging a bit behind with its target of getting 1.9 million people vaccinated to reach herd immunity.
