CUT Bfn students carry on despite protests, suspension of classes | News Article

Despite the protests by Central University of Technology (CUT) students and classes being suspended on Monday, students are seen going about their business as normal.

Scores of these students are either sitting under trees or some even standing with their books trying to make most out the suspended classes.

On Monday, the South African Student Congress (Sasco) leaders forced students out of classes after attending just a single lecture in protest over unpaid fees by NSFAS.

In a letter sent to students, management says classes would be suspended until Wednesday 27 February, while lectures will resume on Thursday 28 February to allow the aid scheme officials to attend to outstanding matters relating to NSFAS-funded students.

Students are protesting over the unpaid financial assistance mainly for accommodation, transport and food.

OFM News previously reported that the Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is on campus to meet with the management and Student Representative Council (SRC) to try and find an amicable solution to the impasse.
