IEC considering extending special voting days─── 17:00 Fri, 23 Apr 2021

The Electoral Commission said it's considering extending special voting to three days during the 2021 local government elections.
The elections will be held on a single day.
The IEC's Chief Electoral Officer says not all political parties were satisfied, with some requesting elections be postponed.
South Africans will head to the polls on the 27th of October 2021.
Sy Mamabolo, IEC Chief Electoral Officer, said: "The commission is exploring, as part of the suggestions that arose in the discussions today and in previous consultations with the [Party Liaison Committee] PLC whether special voting days could be extended.
“We normally have two days of special voting. There is a proposal to extend that to the third day. The commission is in the process of considering that option.
"No decision has as yet been made in that regard. As for election day we are constrained there, by law, to have it on a single day but special voting days. The commission may, if finances are available and if the propositions are found to be sustainable."
Mamabolo committed to examine and formally respond to each proposal from the PLC.
