A Northern Cape man, arrested for being in possession of a hunting rifle and suspected stolen livestock, is due to appear in the Prieska Magistrate's court on Monday.

The suspect was arrested on Friday following a tip-off by community members who reported a suspicious vehicle parked at Steenbok Crescent in Prieska at around midnight.  Police spokesperson, Olebogeng Tawana, says upon the polices' arrival, the suspect was found sleeping inside the vehicle. When the police searched the vehicle, a hunting rifle and two goats were found. Tawana says the 25-year-old failed to produce documentation for the livestock and could not produce a licence for the rifle which led to his arrest. A white bakkie believed to be instrumental in the commission of the crime was also confiscated.

Agri Eastern Cape is mourning the loss of one of its members in a farm-attack near Nanaga in the Sarah Baartman District of the Eastern Cape. Agri Eastern Cape issued a statement Sunday night in which it named the deceased as Werner Buchner Senior. According to the organisation, three suspects entered the home of Werner and Estelle Buchner on the dairy farm, Boslaagte at around 6.30 yesterday evening. 55-year-old Buchner was shot and died on the scene while his son Werner Buchner Junior was also shot when the attackers entered the premises. The suspects fled the scene with two cell phones and an undisclosed amount of money. Estelle Buchner suffered two broken arms in the attack and was transported to hospital along with her son who underwent surgery and is now reported to be in a stable condition. Agri Eastern Cape reports that the suspects are still at large and that the SAPS dog unit and other statutory forces were deployed to assist in the search.

Concerns for a global coffee shortage are growing after Covid-19 lockdowns in Vietnam have lead to supply chain disruptions. The BBC reports Ho Chi Minh city - which includes a port and is a large exporting hub - has been locked down to control the aggressive Delta variant. As a result, exporters are now finding it much harder to transport coffee beans to ports to enable global distribution, with prices soaring and shipment delays ever-threatening. Bloomberg reports according to the UN, Vietnam, the world's second-largest producer of coffee, is a major producer and exporter of robusta - a bitter-tasting coffee bean used predominantly in instant coffee and some espresso blends. The Vietnam Coffee-Cocoa Association is now petitioning the Government to ease some of the restrictions, which they say cause delays, raise costs, and put shippers at risk of having to compensate buyers for late delivery. The global coffee supply was already threatened by an unseasonably dry harvest in Brazil, another major global exporter of coffee.
