Work to start on first FS agri-park in July | News Article

Bloemfontein - Nearly a quarter of a million Rand has been set aside towards the development of five mega agri-parks across Free State, with plans to break ground at the first site in Springfontein in the Xhariep district in July.

General manager of district services at the provincial department of agriculture and rural development (ARD), Dr Takisi Masiteng, says planning for the establishment of the agri-parks is at an advanced stage:

The concept is intended to facilitate utilisation of the entire value-chain by creating a space for processors, packagers and other related agro-business in close proximity to the producers.

President Jacob Zuma announced in his State of the Nation address earlier this year that agri-parks would be established in the 27 poorest district municipalities across the country.

The ARD said in a statement that about R45-million per agri-park has been allocated for development.
