Popcru to stage march against gender-based violence in Kimberley─── CASEY-LEE ANTHONY 05:00 Wed, 27 Nov 2024
During 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, police and prisons union Popcru will stage a march on Friday (29/11) to hand over a memorandum of demands to Correctional Services area commissioner’s office.
Leading up to the march, the union will host various initiatives in the Northern Cape and Free State, themed “Working together and creating zero-tolerant workplaces on gender-based violence, femicide and harassment”.
“We advocate for zero-tolerance in the workplace. The need for safety, dignity, and respect is emphasised, especially in sectors prone to high levels of violence, such as law enforcement and correctional facilities,” said Popcru spokesperson Richard Mamabolo.

Over the past years, the union has shown support for the annual global campaign running from 25 November to 10 December, aiming to eliminate gender-based violence, harassment, and femicide.
“Popcru’s involvement in these initiatives reflects its commitment to systemic change by fostering respectful, inclusive, and accountable workplaces to help reduce gender-based violence, particularly among public sector workers, and ensuring fair treatment and support for survivors.”
