Bloemfontein residents to enjoy outdoor ‘ice rink’ this festive season─── CASEY-LEE ANTHONY 11:54 Mon, 25 Nov 2024
Bloemfontein residents looking for something different to do can go 'ice' skating.
The “ice rink” would provide a fun activity for families staying home for the holidays or visitors to the city.
Besides having a Christmas light display and a synthetic ice rink, Windmill Casino will also accept donations for a youth care centre on Wednesday (4/12).
“A collection box will be available in the Santa Village, and we will donate the items to Engo youth care centres early next year,” said Windmill Casino General Manager, Johan Oosthuizen.

Centlec plans to put lights up throughout the city at Christmas, while the casino allows families to walk through the casino’s premises and take pictures of the light show.
The artificial ice rink won’t necessarily offer relief from the year-end heat as it’s made of hard plastic, making it durable for the summer heat and allowing visitors to wear the appropriate clothing.
‘It’s 90% as fast as genuine ice rinks’
“It’s made out of thermoplastic and this is used in the ice-skating families globally as a practice facility when there is no real ice available, e.g. in parks and garages, and it’s 90% (as fast as geniune) ice rinks,” said Just 4 Fun manager, Neels Weyers.
Skating shoes will be provided, ranging from sizes four to ten, but visitors may bring their own shoes.
