“Residents of wards 18, 20, 22, and 25 in Mangaung, as well as ward 35 in Matjhabeng, are urged to verify and update their registration details at their respective voting stations.”

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has announced that voters can register this coming weekend for by-elections scheduled to take place in two municipal areas in the Free State on 11 September 2024.

This follows the resignation of five DA councillors from their positions in the Mangaung and Matjhabeng municipalities.

Residents of Wards 18, 20, 22, and 25 in Mangaung, as well as Ward 35 in Matjhabeng, are urged to verify and update their registration details at their respective voting stations. The IEC spokesperson in the Free State, Mathabo Rasengane, confirmed that the following voting stations will be open on Saturday (27/7) and Sunday (28/7) from 08:00 until 17:00.

Rasengane reminded voters to bring along their ID, either the green barcoded ID book, a smart ID, or a valid temporary ID certificate.

“Voters must also complete their physical address on registration or provide sufficient particulars of their place of residence. However, documents such as proof of address or municipal accounts are not required,” she said.

Rasengane also reminded voters that it is a criminal offence to register and vote outside of the area in which they reside.
