Stock theft rears its head in Lejweleputswa─── 09:26 Sat, 07 May 2022
Thirty five Bonsmara cattle were stolen from a farm near Odendaalsrus on Friday.
The Police’s Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit in the Lejweleputswa district were dispatched to search the area, and recovered nineteen head of cattle.
Police followed tracks in a maize field for several kilometres before they found ten head of cattle abandoned.
An additional nineteen animals were found seven kilometres from the farm where they were stolen.
According to the police six animals are still missing.

The retrieved animals were handed back to their owner after positively identifying them as his live stock.
Meanwhile, one foreign national was arrested while a second managed to flee.
The suspect is facing charges of being in possession of suspected stolen livestock as well as being in the country illegally.
He will appear in the Odendaalsrus Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
