Sedibeng confirms water disruptions in FS municipalities─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 12:41 Sat, 03 Jul 2021
Sedibeng Water confirms there have been water interruptions in the Free State’s Matjhabeng and Nala Local Municipalities.
The water board in a statement cites excessive water leaks on its main pipelines supplying water to the reservoirs at Riebeeckstad as the main reason.
Sedibeng Water, in an urgent notice addressed to the Matjhabeng Municipal Manager, explains that reservoirs at Riebeeckstad are supplying water to most areas in Matjhabeng as well as to Wesselsbron and Monyakeng in the Nala Municipal areas.
The notice comes amidst growing concerns over taps that have run dry in large parts of Matjhabeng, with one resident in Ventersburg having told OFM News they have been without water for the past six days.
The notice, dated 1 July, highlights that waterworks will cause the reservoirs in Reebeeckstad to run empty, which will result in consumers being without water for at least four days.
“Due to these excessive leaks as well as other challenges at the Balkfontein Water Treatment Works, it becomes very difficult to maintain continuous water supply to our customers,” said the water board.
