EFF expects FS premier to address land evictions─── LUCKY NKUYANE 15:03 Mon, 01 Mar 2021
The EFF in the Free State says it expects Premier Sisi Ntombela to touch on the issue of farm evictions and the distribution of land in the province in her State of the Province Address (SOPA) on Tuesday.
The EFF’s provincial deputy chairperson, Matlhomola Majake, says the issue of farm evictions and land distribution in the province is giving them sleepless nights.
He says the eviction of farm dwellers in the Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality, which includes Phuthaditjhaba, are rife and happening quite often. He says they have also noticed that these evictions of the dwellers are also rife in places such as the Dihlabeng Local Municipality, and Vrede in the Phumelela Local Municipality. Majake says Ntombela will have to give feedback on the promises she made about the distribution of the land and also say how evictions will be mitigated.
“We are expecting to talk about those farm evictions and how they are going to mitigate that, including unfair labour practice on those farms and all of that. As the EFF we have been attending several cases. They are evicting farm dwellers and all of that, and what’s worse now is that they are taking stock. You will be told that the stock is going to the pound but when you go to the pound you find no animals there,” he adds.
Majake also says they expect Ntombela to address the issues of employment in the province, which seems to be escalating amongst young people.
Statistics South Africa has just released a report which shows that unemployment has risen dramatically. So we are expecting a lot from her but the challenge is whether she will come to the party,” he adds.
