The police in the Free State are appealing to anyone who might have information about five trucks that were set alight on the R59 road between Parys and Sasolburg to come forward.

Provincial police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, says the police in the two towns received a complaint on Saturday night about the trucks that were set alight. He adds that upon their arrival they found five of them extinguished by fire departments from Sasolburg. He indicates the drivers have alleged that one truck was petrol bombed and forced to stop across the road. Shots were also allegedly fired at other trucks forcing them to stop.

Makhele says the truck drivers fled to a nearby field for safety and the motive for the attack is under investigation. He adds the drivers were treated for shock at the Parys District Hospital and no arrests have been made yet.

He, in a statement, reiterates “investigations continue and anyone with information should please contact D/Warrant Officer Freddie Nel at 083 756 7977 or call Crime Stop at 08600 10111, alternatively send information via the MySaps App”.
