Protests flare up in Warrenton─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 05:38 Wed, 11 Nov 2020
Protests action flared up on the N12 at Warrenton in the Northern Cape, on Tuesday night.
The protests come just days after it made news over the state of its local police station with the DA calling on the Provincial Police Commissioner to intervene.
Following an oversight visit by the party’s MPL Reinette Liebenberg and other Members of the Provincial Legislature, the party said it is appalled by the horrendous state of the Warrenton Police Station. It said the police station is extremely under-resourced with at least three police vehicles waiting for repairs, poor ablution and shower facilities in the holding cells, as well as the lack of running water supply for inmates.
Liebenberg said these conditions are extremely concerning amidst the Covid-19 pandemic and that it came as no surprise that crime is increasing in the town with the police unable to render adequate services.
