Protests break out in North West─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 07:48 Mon, 24 Jun 2019
Protest action has flared up on the N12 between Klerksdorp and Potchefstroom in the vicinity of Ikageng in the North West.
Roads in this area are obstructed with stones and burning tires. Last month, residents in this area took to the streets to express their frustrations over what they alleged to be a lack of service delivery by the local JB Marks Municipality due to maladministration and corruption.
Residents accused the management of the municipality of ignoring repeated calls for better service delivery as well as job creation.
Police spokesperson, Aafje Botma, confirms a group of people have embarked on protests and are burning tires in Ikageng over service delivery issues.
She says no arrests have yet been made and the police are closely monitoring the situation.
