North West MEC tells matriculants to persevere despite results─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 12:09 Thu, 09 Jan 2025
North West’s Education MEC has urged matriculants who may not perform as expected in their National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams to remain resilient and learn from their mistakes.
MEC Ntsentsao Viola Motsumi will announce her province’s results on Tuesday (14/1) during an address in Klerksdorp, Dr Kenneth Kaunda district, a day after Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube is expected to announce the national 2024 NSC results on Monday.
In 2023, North West achieved an 81.6% matric pass rate, placing it fourth nationally. This marked a 1.8 percentage point improvement compared to the previous year. Rustenburg-based Bojanala District achieved the highest pass rate of 84.2%.
To build on this momentum, Motsumi had previously emphasised the department’s commitment to address challenges faced by schools that recorded pass rates below 70% in the 2023 academic year.
Despite the department’s efforts, Motsumi acknowledged that not all learners might achieve their desired outcomes in 2024. She encouraged those learners to view their results as a stepping stone rather than a setback.
“To those who had not performed as well as they had hoped, I urge you not to be discouraged. This is not the end of your journey but rather a stepping stone to future success. Remember that setbacks are an opportunity to learn and grow. Do not give up; instead, try again with renewed determination.”
She extended her congratulations in advance to learners who will receive positive results, commending their dedication and perseverance throughout the academic year.
