The newly elected acting mayor of the ANC in the troubled Letsemeng Local Municipality, that includes Koffiefontein in the Free State, is expected to act only for three months and has until then to at least sort out issues besieging the town.

Sello Bahumi from ward 6 in Petrusburg was elected during a mass meeting with the town’s residents on Monday, following the official announcement of the resignation of the long former embattled mayor, Thandiwe Reachable.

One of the local councillors, Pascal Mlozana, tells OFM News that normally Bahumi would have acted for a certain period of time after which the ANC would then decide who will officially be appointed in the position.

OFM News previously reported that residents opposed the nomination of one of the local councillors, Abram Lebaka, of ward 3 in Petrusburg, of being a puppet and part of the administration of the former embattled mayor, Reachable. Mlozana has, however, registered his disappointment with the residents of the town who he says seemingly want to dictate the terms of who should become the next mayor of the town.

Mlozana says he wants to put it on the record that he is not the spokesperson for the council nor the municipality but he feels he must state the municipality’s case. He says he feels as if matters on the table with regard to issues of the town must be fairly discussed and proper and progressive solutions should be found so that the residents can move on with their lives as normal.

OFM News previously reported that angry residents are adamant that they will stop at nothing to ensure that all of their demands are adhered to appropriately. This as Reachable officially resigned during a community meeting on Monday after an intervention by her political party, the ANC.
