Protests rock Bfn CUT again | News Article

Classes have once again been disrupted on Monday morning at the Central University of Technology (CUT) by angry students belonging to the South African Students Congress (SASCO) over unpaid fees by the student financial aid scheme (NSFAS).

One of the students tells OFM News that a group rocked up at class and removed students after successfully attending just a single lecture. The university spokesperson, Dan Maritz, say NSFAS delegates are at the campus to address the Student Representative Council (SRC) leadership and the management on the issues of unpaid monies to students.

He previously said the university’s management, together with the SRC, joined hands to find lasting solutions to this predicament.

OFM News understands that some students have received their financial assistance while scores of them are still in limbo, desperately waiting to see if the monies would be paid this week. On Thursday, a group of students who were singing struggle songs, demanded that students vacate the classes. In his response to the incident, the varsity spokesperson, Dan Maritz, said the students were not necessarily protesting but merely acting on an agreement between the management and the SRC.
