The Matlosana Animal Shelter in Stilfontein, North West, is pleading with the public to provide assistance in the form of food and blankets for their new additions.

The shelter is currently fostering some of the dogs which had to be rescued after a devastating fire that occurred at the PurrPaws for Life shelter in Vanderbijlpark on Wednesday.

Co-owner of the shelter, Suzette Kotze, told OFM News that they are always willing to go the literal distance to get to the animals in need which is why they travelled to Vanderbijlpark in order to fetch the dogs which they are currently housing.

“We currently take care of about two hundred dogs and we took in 30 dogs from the shelter. We are in urgent need of extra food and blankets for the 30 dogs,” Kotze said.

Food and blanket donations can be dropped off at the shelter in Stilfontein. Alternatively, those who wish to make contributions can also contact Suzette Kotze on 072-814-5927.

OFM News previously reported on the fire which burned parts of the PurrPaws for Life shelter and destroyed the house where the shelter’s owner, Lindie van Rooyen, her husband and two volunteers live. The pro-life shelter housed at least 1300 animals. Unfortunately, 30 animals did not survive the fire.
