England and the Netherlands are through to the semi-finals of the Euro 2024 in Germany.

On Saturday night, the Three Lions secured their spot in the last four of the European Championships by beating Switzerland.

The game in Düsseldorf went the distance with a penalty shootout after it was all-square at 1-1 after added extra time.

The English managed to advance with following a 5-3 win in the shootout.

Over in Berlin, the Netherland beat Turkey 2-1. Turkey led the match at half time following a 35th minute Samet Akaydin goal.

Stefan De Vrij equalised for the Dutch in the 76th minute, and six minutes later the winner was scored in the cruellest of manners, with Mert Mulder scoring an own goal.

The Netherlands coach, Ronald Koeman, said reaching the semi-finals means a lot for the nation.

“For the whole nation, it's something special,” said Koeman.

“We are a small nation and we're in the semi-finals with England, France and Spain and are really proud.

“We had to suffer tonight but there are no easy games. They put everything into it.

“It was an emotional match and we showed real heart. It was a good second half. We had to suffer but it's a great success to get the opportunity to play in a semi-final.”

On Friday night, France beat Portugal 5-3 on penalties the game was deadlocked at 0-0 after extra time.

Spain in turn knocked the hosts, Germany with a 2-1 win.

On Tuesday, Spain will face France in the first semi-final in Munich. The second semi-final will be played on Wednesday when the Netherlands face England in Dortmund.
