Reigning Betway Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns made it Sunday two wins in a row with a 4-1 win against Marumo Gallants at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria.

Tashreeq Matthews, Iqraam Rayners, Lucas Ribeiro, and Sphelele Mkhulise scored for Sundowns in a display of dominant play and counterattacking football.

Sundowns goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, saved Gabadinho Mhango’s penalty in the 85th minute only for the attacker to add his name to the scoresheet four minutes later.

In the afternoon’s other two Premiership matches, Royal AM and Richards Bay played to a goalless draw. At the same time, Orlando Pirates secured a well-deserved 3-0 victory over Polokwane City at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto. Goals were scored for the hosts by Monnapule Saleng and a brace of goals for Evidence Makgopa.

The win elevated the Buccaneers to the top of the league standings having picked up six points from their first two matches. Coach Jose Riveiro’s side will now travel to KwaZulu-Natal where they will face Richards Bay on Sunday. Marumo Gallants will next face AmaZulu FC at home, next Saturday.

In today’s Premiership matches, AmaZulu FC will host Kaizer Chiefs, Golden Arrows will take on Magesi FC, Sekhukhune United will play Chippa United, Stellenbosch FC will face Cape Town City and Supersport United will host TS Galaxy.
