Free State MEC becomes treasurer of ANC’s Women League─── TSHEHLA KOTELI 09:44 Tue, 25 Jul 2023

The MEC responsible for the Free State Department of Community Safety, Roads, and Transport, MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae, has been elected as the ANC Women's League's treasurer-general over the past weekend.
Letsoha-Mathae previously served as the league’s fundraiser. The ANC in the Free State has since congratulated the newly elected treasurer-general in a media statement.
The spokesperson, Jabu Mbalula, described her as an eloquent, agile, energetic and passionate political and social activist. “She is known for being a strict disciplinarian, a hard worker and a born organiser. She hails from a small Free State town called Tweespruit, which falls within the Thabo Mofutsanyana region.”
She is explained to have served in various Free State ANC PECs from 1995 as both ex-officio and later on as a directly elected member of the PEC. In 1999, she was elected as a Member of the Legislature, a role she played until 2004.

“The ANC in the Free State has no doubt that she will serve the ANCWL selflessly and with distinction. We wish her and the entire leadership well in the tasks that lie ahead. Given the alarming levels of Gender-based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), triple oppression of Black women based on their gender, class and race, high levels of poverty amongst women, and other social challenges, the newly-elected leadership have massive tasks ahead of them. We have confidence that the elected leadership is equal to these mammoth tasks,” concluded Mbalula in a statement.

The Legislature at the time had four vacancies following the resignations of the former Free State premier, Sisi Ntombela, Jabulani Radebe, and Polediso Motsoeneng and the passing of Tate Makgoe, the Member of the Executive Committee (MEC) for Education.
