UPDATED: Stage 4 load-shedding to continue─── 15:30 Wed, 14 Sep 2022
Embattled state-owned entity Eskom announced that stage 4 load-shedding will continue throughout Thursday and Friday, with a possibility of lower stages from Saturday morning.
The power utility said teams are working around the clock to return units to service.
Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha yet again blamed a shortage of generation capacity and the need to carry out unplanned maintenance.
Eskom earlier said it will implement stage 4 load-shedding on Tuesday from 10:00 until Thursday at 05:00.
The rolling blackouts are expected to continue over the weekend.
Eskom says stage 4 had to be implemented after three units at the Kendel Power Station tripped.
On Monday, the power utility briefed the media on the reasons for the latest round of blackouts, which began on Friday.
Eskom COO Jan Oberholzer described a series of breakdowns at the country's power stations over the past week as "disastrous," saying that since last Monday some 42 generating units have tripped.
Oberholzer said they will ramp up planned maintenance during the summer and confirmed that there will be sporadic load-shedding during the summer months.
