A former President of South Africa, Frederik Willem (FW) de Klerk, has died at the age of 85.
Word of De Klerk’s death was made known by his foundation via a statement posted on their website. The 85-year-old died peacefully at his home in Cape Town earlier Thursday morning, following his long struggle with mesothelioma cancer.
De Klerk is survived by his second wife Elita, his children Jan and Susan, and his grandchildren. President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to make an announcement on the death of the Nobel peace prize winner soon.
The North-West University (NWU), where De Klerk studied, tells OFM News they will release a statement on his death shortly. This is a developing story.
