EPWP workers unhappy over salaries─── 06:36 Mon, 01 Feb 2021
Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) workers in the Vaal claim they have not received salaries for the past four months from the cash-stripped Emfuleni Local Municipality in Gauteng.
Some unhappy workers say they are struggling to financially support their families. Responding to this claim, municipal adviser Sipho Mnguni says the municipality has a contract with a service provider, and not with the workers.
However, Mnguni further reiterates the municipality has a moral obligation to reach out when a service provider is not treating their employees well.
Meanwhile, Thabo Ndwandwe, from the service provider "On Board" which has a contract with the municipality, disputes the allegations made by the employees, saying they only failed to pay salaries for two months, not four months as the workers claimed.
He assured the workers that the salaries will be paid soon.
