Former SA Human Rights Commissioner Danny Titus has died aged 63.

Titus had been in a coma since undergoing eye surgery in July.

He was resuscitated after cardiac arrest but never regained consciousness.

Titus was an executive director at the Afrikaans Language and Culture Association.

He also helped establish the Afrikaans Language Council and, as a former human rights commissioner, fought for minority rights.
