#Coronavirus: Sedibeng mayor dies─── 14:05 Fri, 08 Jan 2021
Sedibeng district Mayor Busisiwe Modisakeng has succumbed to the coronavirus (Covid-19).
The Heidelberg hospital in the Vaal Triangle, Gauteng, confirmed her passing. Modisakeng's death comes at a time where some Vaal residents were calling for her resignation.
Four people were arrested in Sharpeville near Vereeniging yesterday, after they blocked streets with burning objects.
They were demanding the closure of the Emfuleni local municipality's offices over a lack of service delivery.
The Emfuleni local municipality, which is under administration, forms part of the Sedibeng district.
Disgruntled Vaal residents are also calling for the resignation of Emfuleni Mayor Gift Moerane, who late last year, saw protesters at the gate of his private home.
Meanwhile, Covid-19 cases are growing in the Vaal.
