Bloemfontein - The last remaining accused in the Mangaung treason trial, Johan Prinsloo, will remain in custody over the festive season as his trial will only get underway in January next year.

This after co-accused Mark Trollip entered into a plea bargain with the state and admitted guilt to conspiring to commit acts of terrorism.

The state withdrew the charge of high treason levelled against him.

NPA spokesperson Phaladi Shuping says Prinsloo is still facing three charges, namely high treason, conspiracy to commit acts of terrorism and possession of ammunition. He says the trials have now been separated.

Four suspects were initially arrested on charges of plotting to kill the ANC leadership during the party’s elective conference in Mangaung in 2012.

Charges were withdrawn against Hein Boonzaaier and accused number two Martin Keevy was found unfit to stand trial.
