Bloemfontein - The Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training, Umalusi, has expressed its satisfaction with the improved quality of marking for the 2016 matric exams.

This comes after the body gave its stamp of approval to the release of this year’s matric results on Thursday.

Umalusi spokesperson, Lucky Ditaunyane, says the quality of the marking is a very important aspect of the integrity and credibility of the examinations.

Ditaunyane says this year saw various provinces put specific measures in place when it came to the selection process of markers.

“This time around they used very stringent criteria to select markers, thus making sure that they were selecting markers who are qualified and experienced enough to do the marking for the various subjects.”

Ditaunyane also says they are happy with the swiftness with which the Department of Basic Education dealt with paper leakages as well as other discrepancies in Limpopo, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga.

He says the class of 2016 also conducted themselves well during the writing of the national exams.
