Proteas target series whitewash against Ireland─── MORGAN PIEK 10:08 Mon, 07 Oct 2024
“In the two previous games against Ireland, we have managed to do that. We have put in performances that we can be proud of as a team, and going into the third game the sole focus is to repeat that.”
The Proteas captain Temba Bavuma has been ruled out for Monday’s third and final One-Day International against Ireland in Abu Dhabi.
Bavuma has picked up a soft tissue injury on his left elbow on Friday while batting and he will see a specialist after arriving back in South Africa. Reeza Hendricks has returned to the UAE as a replacement for Bavuma.
The allrounder, Wiaan Mulder, in turn has returned to South Africa for personal reasons.

Rassie van der Dussen has been named the Proteas captain for Monday’s game against the Irish.
South Africa will target a series whitewash against the Irish after claiming a 174-run victory in the 2nd ODI on Friday to take an unassailable 2-0 lead.
Van der Dussen said they are feeling positive heading into the dead rubber after productive discussions within the camp.
“It’s definitely good to be back to winning ways,” said Van der Dussen.
“This series or leg in the UAE has been a bit stop-start from a results point of view. A few days before the series we just had a bit of realignment as a squad in terms of talking about what exactly we want from this tour and how we want to go about it as a team.

Play in Abu Dhabi is scheduled to get underway at 13:30.
