North West state veterinary clinics open over festive season─── CASEY-LEE ANTHONY 12:34 Wed, 18 Dec 2024
As part of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development’s broader effort to prevent and control animal diseases all state veterinary clinics will remain open this festive season.
It is crucial to the agriculture industry that all livestock receive veterinary assistance, especially during this time of year, as this sector is a critical pillar for the province’s economy.
“In a bid to prioritise animal health and welfare, state veterinary clinics across North West will remain operational throughout the festive season,” said media liaison officer Khutala Tshangela.
“This ensures uninterrupted access to critical veterinary services for farmers, pet owners, and the public.”
‘Animals have critical healthcare needs that cannot be overlooked’
Clinics will operate with skeleton staff; however, a lot of effort has been made to ensure that every person who requires veterinary care for their animals receives it and is not turned away. Veterinary services are available during regular working hours, except for public holidays, to ensure minimal disruption to animal health needs.
“Like humans, animals have critical healthcare needs that cannot be overlooked. This initiative reflects our commitment to strengthening veterinary services across the province,” said North West MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development Madoda Sambatha.
He added the health and welfare of animals are central to the well-being of their agricultural sector and the communities they serve.
This necessary arrangement guarantees farmers and pet owners continuous access to veterinary care during this busy period.
Farmers and pet owners are encouraged to use these services to protect the well-being, productivity, and security of their animals.
The MEC extended heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated veterinary staff, who have committed to working during this period, acknowledging their sacrifices to ensure uninterrupted service delivery while they could have been with their families.
