“His victory is a source of immense pride for our nation, showcasing the incredible talent that South Africa has to offer.”
Dricus “Still-Knocks” Du Plessis retains his title as the UFC middleweight champion after choking out Israel Adesanya in the fourth round in Perth, Australia.
The DA extended its warmest congratulations to Du Plessis on his monumental victory and successful defense of his UFC middleweight title.
“This triumph is more than just a win in the octagon; it is a shining example of South African excellence on the global stage. Dricus has demonstrated the power of hard work, dedication, and an unyielding spirit. These qualities resonate deeply with all South Africans,” said Liam Jacobs, the DA’s deputy spokesperson for sports, arts, and culture.
According to News24, it was a fight for the ages, with Adesanya edging ahead by landing some heavy blows up until the fourth round.
OFM Sport reports the first two rounds were pretty even, but Adesanya peppered Du Plessis with body shots in the third round, tipping the odds in his favour. However, Du Plessis, known for his grappling prowess, floored Adesanya in the fourth round, applying a rear-naked choke and forcing him to tap out.
Congratulations, Dricus Du Plessis, on retaining your UFC middleweight world championship with a submission in #UFC305.
