“I approached a teacher, who said I must return on the following Monday. When I did, I asked the principal to show me the footage of the incident but he refused."
A parent whose child was allegedly the victim of bullying at a school in Brandfort says she was refused access to footage of the incident.
Maditlhare Ntomane’s six-year-old daughter almost drowned at Staatspresident Swart High School after she was allegedly pushed into a swimming pool by a Grade 4 learner. Ntomane’s older daughter, who is also in Grade 4, saw her sister struggling in the pool, before an older learner pulled her from the water and performed CPR.
Ntomane said she demanded to see the footage of the incident, after being told different details of how it happened.
‘It’s not like my daughter is dead’
“I approached a teacher, who said I must return on the following Monday. When I did, I asked the principal to show me the footage of the incident but he refused. He said they will speak to my daughter about what happened and that I had to go home. He also said to me it’s not like my daughter is dead,” Ntomane said.
The distraught mother added that she is scared her children will be victimised at the school after going public with the details of what happened.
OFM News has sent an enquiry to the Free State Department of Education and is awaiting a response.
