Don’t miss TID rollover deadline!─── 12:21 Wed, 30 Oct 2024
CENTLEC clarifies and corrects the previous countdown message regarding the Token Identifier (TID) rollover deadline.
A countdown message circulating on various social media platforms incorrectly indicated that the TID rollover deadline has been extended to 31 May 2025.
“We would like to emphasise that the deadline for the TID rollover remains 24 November 2024. Circular-2024, issued by the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) on 30 September 2024, states that the postponement to 31 May 2025 applies only to the generation of key change tokens.
“Therefore, all prepaid meters that have not been upgraded by 24 November 2024 will not be able to upload prepaid tokens,” said Lele Mamatu, CENTLEC spokesperson.
Mamatu informed OFM News that they are available to assist customers with any queries until the deadline.
Over 80% of prepaid meters have already been upgraded, with only a few remaining outstanding. CENTLEC urges all customers who have not yet upgraded their meters to do so by purchasing electricity units.
If a customer’s meter has not been upgraded, they will receive three sets of 20-digit codes upon purchasing electricity, with the last code serving as the unit token code. If all three sets of tokens are accepted, the meter has been successfully upgraded.
‘We urge our customers to focus solely on the information provided by CENTLEC’
OFM News previously reported on the countdown initiated for all prepaid customers to update their meters before the 24 November 2024 deadline. This includes the steps necessary for updating the TID memory.
“We have noted the communication issued by SALGA and Eskom regarding the TID processes, particularly the one being implemented by Eskom. We urge our customers to focus solely on the information provided by CENTLEC, as it specifically pertains to our customers.
“Eskom has its own processes for rolling out the TID, which differ slightly from ours.
“Concerning the extension communicated by SALGA, this applies only to the generational keypad and does not affect the 24 November 2024 deadline. The extension is intended for customers who have applied for the process but whose meters have not yet been upgraded, allowing them time to complete the upgrades,” said Mamatu to OFM News.
