The alleged kidnappers and killers of the 16-year-old Bloemfontein girl Machaka Radebe are expected to appear in court for a formal bail hearing tomorrow (8/1).

Two suspects aged 28 and 40 were arrested on 28 December 2023 after being linked to the kidnapping and murder. Both suspects made a brief appearance in the Bloemfontein magistrates’ court last Tuesday (2/1), where their case was postponed to Monday (8/1) for bail application.

The teenager’s body was discovered in Phase 2 days after she was reported missing by her family. Community members raised concerns over rife abduction and killing of girls and women in Bloemfontein.

The 22-year-old Lesego Mamello Motaung remains missing after her aunt reported her disappearance to Park Road police station on 30 October 2023, with the investigation so far yielding no results. The 23-year-old Lerato Masiu is also still missing, having last been seen by her mother on 16 November 2023.

Last week (4/1), police arrested two suspects, aged 33 and 27, linked to the disappearance of Sibongile Portia Ngwana, who went missing on 28 November 2023. Unidentified remains were later found near the M10.

Free State Premier Mxolisi Dukwana commended police on the arrests of perpetrators linked to kidnapping and killing of women and children in the province.
