Mayor of Ditsobotla frustrated by fire that destroyed museum─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 15:19 Thu, 26 Oct 2023
"The cause of the fire remains unknown at this stage while the building has been cordoned off."
The Executive Mayor of Ditsobotla Local Municipality in North West said it will not be possible to replace everything that was destroyed by the fire inside the Ampie Bosman Cultural Museum.
OFM News reported that a town hall which also accommodated the museum and contained the artifacts of Lichtenburg were gutted by fire on Tuesday (24/10). The Lichtenburg-based Mayor, Thabo Nkhashe, said it is partially damaged while the museum building and the artefacts inside it were completely gutted by the fire.
Municipal spokesperson Pius Batsile said the municipality is still quantifying the damages. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this stage while the building has been cordoned off. The public are not allowed to enter the building.
Nkashe has since appealed to police to speed up investigations to ensure the suspect is arrested and if there is any foul play.
