Walking to raise awareness for mental health─── ZENANDE MPAME 13:23 Wed, 25 Oct 2023
“There is a lack of understanding amongst our youth who are too afraid to speak out due to the negative stigma associated with mental health awareness.”
Steven Murray walked through Bloemfontein on Friday (20/10) and was doing talks at various schools in the city to raise awareness of mental health, anti-bullying, and autism.
The long walk started in Durban on 1 October 2023 and it will end in Cape Point. The distance for this walk is 1721 km.
Murray Motivation is on day 25 of 60 of his walk and he is walking from Rusplaas to Trompsburg today (25/10).

“My main goal is if I can change one person’s life and perspective or save them from doing something that has a terrible outcome then I have done enough. Hopefully, next year we can continue with this journey.”
Murray mentioned that he became passionate about mental health awareness after Covid-19. Because when the pandemic hit he was also affected by his mental health and depression.
“I started a TikTok page and posted videos just motivating people and it has helped some people.”
"As someone who has firsthand experience with mental health challenges, this is something close to my heart. I will share my experiences along the way to let our youth know, there is hope," said Murray.

Murray said he is going to schools and doing the walk to motivate those suffering from their mental health and to educate those who don’t know much.
“If you can, run, if you can’t run walk, if you can’t walk crawl, but whatever you do just move forward,” said Murray.
