The slain DA councillor in Maluti-A-Phofung in the Free State has been laid to rest alongside his mother.
Family, friends, and colleagues gathered at the Bluegumbosch multipurpose centre in Phuthaditjhaba on Saturday (30/11) to bid a final farewell to them.
Moshe Lefuma (40) and his mother, Dinah Lefuma (61), were murdered in their home on Saturday (23/11) by unidentified assailants in what has sent shockwaves through the Maluti-a-Phofung community.
According to reports two men entered their home initially inquiring about Moshe. Despite Dinah's questions about their intentions, the men proceeded to his bedroom, where he was sleeping. Dinah followed them and they started shooting. Moshe’s younger brother fled the scene, narrowly escaping the brutal attack.
The tragedy has left the DA and the local community in mourning. Maluti-a-Phofung DA Constituency Head Jafta Mokoena expressed profound sadness.
“We are deeply hurt by the loss of a young life, someone who still had so much to give his community. His commitment to uplifting those around him was unwavering. Moshe was more than a colleague – he was a friend to many.”

The investigation into the double murder has been handed over to the provincial Serious and Violent Crime, Murder, and Robbery Unit in Bloemfontein. Free State police spokesperson Lorraine Earle confirmed no arrests have been made yet but the case remains a priority.
The DA has called for swift justice, urging law enforcement to leave no stone unturned in finding the perpetrators.
