"The handover of newly built homes comes amidst the provincial government’s promise to speed up the process of delivering services to residents in the province."

The North West Premier has handed over a newly built house to a 97-year-old woman at Setateng Village in Mahikeng.

A newly built house was also handed over to a child-headed household of three and two more houses to the family, which consists of 15 family members in Morwatshetlha Village outside Mahikeng. The 15 family members had been living in a small shack. The handover of newly built homes comes amidst the provincial government’s promise to speed up the process of delivering services to residents.

Acting Premier, Nono Maloyi, said the handover of houses forms part of the government’s recently launched operation Thuntsha Lerole. The operation aimed at delivering services faster to people of North West.

North West government has recently been under scrutiny over unfinished multimillion-dollar housing projects in areas such as Taung Local Municipality.

“When I spoke about Thuntsha Lerole the other day, I said it was the combination of speed from China and Dubai in terms of comparison of delivering services to our people.

"We are fixing roads, we are fixing leaking pipelines, we are even giving our people houses and title deeds. We are also giving our people land and vegetables to plant. We’re visiting and closing down non-compliant taverns.”

Maloyi said eight municipalities have been visited so far out of 18 in the province, adding he was happy with the progress so far. The provincial government expects to conclude visits to all municipalities by December 2023. Maloyi meanwhile slammed officials and service providers who looted taxpayers' money over the years.
