“The ANC has nothing to offer to voters since they have bankrupted the country.”

The DA is of the view that the ANC has bankrupted state-owned entities such as the national power utility, Eskom.

Giving a reaction to the ANC’s 2019 manifesto review held in Welkom, Roy Jankielsohn, the Free State DA’s provincial leader, said the ANC has nothing to offer to voters since they have bankrupted the country. He said particularly in the province – before one gets to Welkom – they can already smell the raw sewage that is flowing into rivers, streets and yards of residents.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has promised to deal with the issue of load-shedding. When he was delivering his keynote address in Soweto at the first Manifesto Review, he once again promised to actively deal with the issue of load-shedding.

The South African Post Office has also since entered into Business Rescue, Ramaphosa vowed to intervene before the entity collapses.

It seems the ANC has changed its approach of making promises. Instead of the 2019 Manifesto Review, they focused on issues which they did not fulfil and vowed to fulfil before the next national elections.

Gwede Mantashe was delivering the keynote address in Welkom on behalf of Ramaphosa. He said the party must not be judged based on issues they haven’t fulfilled since 2019, but they must be judged based on everything they have done since the dawn of democracy.

He also promised the party would deal with illegal mining activities happening all around the country. He acknowledged this ongoing issue remains a significant challenge for the government. In his address, Mantashe emphasised the ANC's belief that the most effective approach to tackling this problem is through the establishment of a specialised police unit, along with the support of the army.

By combining the expertise of law enforcement professionals with the military's resources, the ANC aims to crack down on illegal mining operations and bring the perpetrators to justice.
