The late former Free State premier Beatrice Marshoff will be laid to rest on Sunday 23 April.

Her provincial category 2 funeral is being held in Heidedal in Bloemfontein from 8 am until 12 pm.

The 66-year-old Marshoff, who has been described by many as a strong and courageous woman, passed on last week Saturday.

She was the premier of the province between 2004 and 2009.

On Saturday 22 April, the provincial government announced that some of the streets leading into and out of Heidedal will be closed to allow for the funeral convoy.

According to Free State Premier Mxolisi Dukwana's spokesperson, Sello Dithebe, some of the streets leading into and out of Heidedal will be closed from 07:00 to 12:00.

He said the South African Police Services (SAPS) will take control of the procession from the family home of the late premier at Dr Belcher Road in Heidedal to the venue of the funeral service, and from the venue to the cemetery in Bainsvlei.

Dithebe said the number of people to enter the gravesite will be controlled by the SAPS due to limited space.

Earlier, President Cyril Ramaphosa granted permission to the Free State Province to hold the funeral of Marshoff as an official Category 2 Provincial Funeral.

"All South African Flags in the province will therefore be flown at half mast from 22 April 2023 until tomorrow 23 April 2023. Books for condolence messages have been placed at the home of the late, former premier at 237 Dr Belcher Road, Heidedal, as well as at the ground floor entrance of the OR Tambo House," Dithebe added.

The funeral of Marshoff will take place at the Norman Doubell Hall in Heidedal. The procession will from there leave for the Bainsvlei Cemetery.
