North West municipality launches anti-corruption strategy─── 12:36 Sat, 25 Feb 2023
The City of Matlosana Local Municipality in North West has, in collaboration with the Office of the Premier, launched the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS).
Speaker Stella Mondlane says local government is on the brink of collapse as a result of rampant corruption and financial misconduct. She says this practice and culture pose a serious threat to the efficiency and well-being of the provincial government.
The stakeholders involved are the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, the Hawks, the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) and the Public Service Commission.
Mondlane says the purpose of the workshop is to promote multi-stakeholder partnerships between the public sector and civil society in the fight against corruption.
Municipal mayor James Tsolela indicates that everyone should volunteer to live a good and ethical life.
"Corruption has a negative impact on services offered by organisations, especially where communities and social development are concerned," said Mondlane.
Mondlane added that the City of Matlosana is developing an attitude of zero tolerance for corruption.
