The National Government has finally delivered on their promise as they handed over the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela museum, based in Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Town - formally known as Brandfort, to the provincial government.

OFM News earlier reported that the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, will launch the 2022 National Reconciliation Month at the house of the late Winnie Madikizela-Mandela in Majwematshweu on Thursday.

The national communication officer for the department, Zimasa Velaphi, stated that the government saw this as a fitting tribute to the late icon, who was also a symbol of reconciliation. Meanwhile, accompanied by the MEC of Sports, Arts and Culture in the Free State, Limakatso Mahasa, Minister Mthethwa said that most of the artefacts of the late struggle icon, including her favourite records, are with her family and friends.

"It's a great day that the project has come to this point. When we started and launched it, critics were saying that we were doing it because there were upcoming elections in 2019. We said we are committed and we'll see to it that the project is finalised because this is a centre of collection from the past, the present to the future. So it's important that we keep it," he said.

He further adds that even though the project is being handed over today, government still has to finalise some of the things at the museum, including bringing the VW Beetle that Winnie-Madikizela Mandela used in those days.
