Health department opens eye clinic, cancer facility in Vryburg-based municipality─── LUCKY NKUYANE 09:35 Sun, 04 Dec 2022
Residents of the Vryburg-based Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District can breathe a sigh of relief, following the opening of a newly established eye clinic and cancer treatment facility at the Joe Morolong Memorial Hospital.
Patients won’t have to travel hours to towns such as Klerksdorp in Matlosana for medical attention.
According to the Health Department's spokesperson, Tebogo Lekgethwane, the Superintendent-General of the department, Obakeng Mongale and the Executive Mayor of the municipality, officially opened both facilities on behalf of MEC Madoda Sambatha.
The Joe Morolong Memorial Hospital, the biggest in the district, has now become a one-stop facility to restore eyesight and treat cancer.
Lekgethwane says the department is committed to strengthening quality healthcare services in the province.
In 2016, the then North West Health MEC, Dr Magome Masike, officially opened the hospital and unveiled a memorial stone in honour of the late freedom fighter and struggle icon, Kesimolotse Taolo Joseph Morolong, who was widely involved in the anti-apartheid campaigns and the defiance campaign of 1952 along with Ruth First.

During the official opening, MEC Masike said: "now we are happy because we have the best hospital for the people of Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District.
"We also have good roads leading to this hospital and this allows us to render the best quality health services for our people which they deserve."
