The family of a well-known Bloemfontein athlete and a father of two, has laid him to rest.

Hundreds of mourners were in attendance at Moeketsi Selemela’s (46) funeral on Friday.

There are still many questions surrounding his death. Selemela’s body was found on the backseat of his own car next to the N1 road last week Sunday.

This follows after his soon to be ex-wife Tebatso (41) was allegedly threatened by a masked gun wielding man demanding money.

According to Selemela’s family he and his wife had been separated for some time, and were in the process of getting a divorce at the time of the incident.

Police spokesperson in the province, Mahlomola Kareli, tells OFM News there were two suspects at Tebatso’s Fichardt Park residence, who managed to lock her and her two children in a bedroom.

When Selemela arrived at the Fichardtpark house - from his Brandwag residence - he was allegedly confronted by the armed assailants.

According to Kareli, Selemela was forced at gunpoint into his vehicle, where his hands and feet were tied up and a plastic bag placed over his head. After the suspects drove away with Selemela, his wife was able to untie herself and call for help.

She informed the police of what had transpired – after which officers began looking for Selemela’s vehicle.

At 13:30 the same day, the vehicle was spotted on the N1 just outside Bloemfontein, parked on the side of the road.

Emergency services were called to the scene and declared Selemela dead on the scene.

Park Road police are investigating a case of house robbery, kidnapping, and murder.

Investigations continue, while no one has been arrested yet.
